Frequently asked question

To clear up your doubts, we have provided answers to some of the questions that we often get asked.

All Swiss consumers with consumption of over 100,000 kWh per year can leave the universal energy service and enter the free market, choosing their electricity supplier. kwick energy offers attractive solutions to this type of consumer, which are designed to meet individual needs.

You are using the universal energy service if you have never applied for distribution network access and if you purchase electricity at the rates of the local distribution network operator. There is a single bill that includes the costs of the energy used, distribution network usage costs, system services and statutory charges.

The consumption of 100,000 kWh, which gives access to the free market, may come from one or more measuring points, as long as these belong to a single customer and are in the same consumption centre (e.g. business premises).

Your electricity consumption over the last year may be shown on your present electricity supplier's end-of-year bill (alternatively, you can add up your quarterly or monthly bills).

If you use the universal energy service, your current distribution network operator must receive the request for free network access by 31 October of the year prior to the new supply starting. If you are already on the free market, the distribution network operator must be notified at least 10 days before the new supply starts. In both cases, we will deal with all of the paperwork.

When you switch to a kwick energy free market supply, you will receive two bills. You will get the kwick energy bill for the supply of electricity and the bill of the distribution network operator which will include system services and statutory charges.

In principle, it does not cost anything to make the switch. The only requirement for switching to the free energy market is to be equipped with a remote metering system to measure energy consumption (the local distribution network operator will perform the installation and may charge the end customer for this).

No. In accordance with the Swiss Electricity Supply Ordinance, you will no longer be able to return to the universal service.

In accordance with the Swiss Electricity Supply Ordinance, you cannot choose your supplier in this case. The supply of electricity for points of supply with a consumption of less than 100,000 kWh per year is ensured by a local operator (universal service).
